The ex-pride of the Soviet space fleet, The Buran space shuttle, is floating down the river Rhine, making its way to its new home in a German museum.
The Buran was only flown one time. The mission was an unmanned test flight in November 1988. Future flights were scheduled, however the collapse of the Soviet Union and financial hardships in Russia forced the cancellation of the Buran program in 1993.
The only surviving Buran has been exhibited countless times around the world. Its most recent notable appearance was at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. The shuttle is now going be on display at the Technik Museum Speyer in Mannheim, Germany.
It is rumored that the cost of transporting the Buran to Germany, and the construction of a new hall to house the shuttle was over $15 million.
